Scrapping my previous two front cover drafts

Following audience feedback, it has become clear that there are several things wrong with my front cover the way it currently is, such as the following:
*The red is eye-searing
*The choice of font could be better
*The image is poor/has been poorly edited

I may as well start it again from scratch. This time, I will browse the internet for alternative fonts rather than relying on the fonts that have already been provided on Photoshop. I will use take several photos of Dan that will help to form a more suitable cover. I will also consider the use of other colours. I hope to continue the next colour scheme I pursue in the other elements of my digipak.

Things I could improve for the next/final edit of my music video

I have acknowledged a number of things in my music video that are worth improving for my next draft, or at least for the final edit.

* Lip syncing - my actor has listened to the song a number of times, but finds it difficult to keep tracks of the lyrics as they are being sung due to the vocal style. There are some lip syncing shots that are better than others; some lines were shorter and therefore it was easier to memorise the rhythm they are sung in. I should go over some of the weaker lip syncing shots and consider re-shooting them.
* Better lighting in some green room shots - Although my intention was for the room to be dark, with the light being focused on Dan, there is a side of his face that is darker than the other, which wasn't intentional. The problem with focusing a light on his face only is that it has the potential of hurting his eyes. Even taking the light a further distance away may not fix things; I may end up standing in the way of the light, being unable to avoid it due to the room's limited space. It is possible to make minor light readjustments in Abode Premiere Pro, however.
* the lighting in a few house shots - Although many of the shots I have done in my house feature decent lighting, there are others that are poor in comparison, due to filming them at different times of the day or not having enough lights on, or both.

Critical analysis of an existing music advertisement

Stone Sour - Audio Secrecy
This is an advertisement for Stone Sour's third album, released in 2010. The band is known for having two members of Slipknot (vocalist Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root) in the band. Although Stone Sour had formed before Slipknot, they did not initially release an album, and the band was put on hiatus when Corey joined Slipknot in 1997. Jim Root also joined in 1999 after their original guitarist, Josh Brainard, left the band over disagreements with other members.
Stone Sour started releasing albums when Slipknot finished touring for their second album, Iowa, in 2002. They began releasing albums once every four years, with Slipknot recording and touring in between those gaps.

The advertisement is based on the album's front cover. Although it dissolves into black near the bottom where the text is positioned. Including the album cover makes it immediately identifiable to fans as an advertisement centred around this particular band. The album title is shown again in a bigger font, which is beneficial because its appearance on the cover itself is small and somewhat hard to read. It is written in a similar font to much of the text on the artwork (the back cover as well as the front). The text below details the release date and 2 of the songs it features that fans were given the oppurtunity to hear prior to the album's release. This is an important selling point as it can encourage fans to buy the album as not many music buyers would be willing to buy the album if they had not heard any songs from it prior. The release formats are also displayed, which is also important as digital downloading is becoming a more popular method of buying music, as it is easier and less time consuming than going out and buying a CD or ordering a CD online and having to wait a few days to recieve it. However, in a way, it also promotes purchasing it on CD with mention of its "Special CD/DVD" edition. Special editions of albums usually feature a handful of bonus tracks, and a DVD featuring a live performance or the band in the studio recording the songs.

I personally think this advertisement is simple and effective. There is no image of the band as they are already established, therefore only the album cover as well as a clear showing of the album title was necessary. The colour scheme of the text is also good as it keeps with the colour scheme of the album cover. I also like the yellow text as it puts emphasis on the songs - a reason to buy the album.

Editing techniques used during post-production

Over the last few months I have been using Adobe Premiere Pro to edit my music video together, I have found myself experimenting with several different effects that I did not initially intend to use when I first set about planning it all out. The experimentation has definitely proved to be beneficial, as it has given me many new ideas as to how I should portray the character shown.

With the various street shots I have filmed, I have experimented with speed and duration effects. With many of the shots, I have sped it up twice the length of the original clip, to demonstrate the character's obsession with finding things to steal and his high level of determination. I have also used reverse effects on a few shots to create a more surreal atmosphere than is possible in a forward motion.

One idea I had that sprung to mind during the making of my second draft was to give the POV shots a red tint. The Media and Film technician was helping me out with the editing of my Film Studies sequence, as I wanted to create a thunder effect with flashing blue tints, which was achieved by going onto Project > new > colour matte. The user can then adjust the colour and shade of the clip, and drag it on top of a clip in the workspace, and adjust its transparency to give the existing shot a different colour tint. I decided that I could use the same feature to enchance my music video, and therefore decided to experiment with the colour red. I ultimately decided to place these colour matte clips over my POV shots. This is effective, as the colour red connotes danger and passion, which is reflective of my character's evil personality, as well as giving him a more monstrous representation.

As well as this, I have deliberately deleted short segements of clips so that some shots play with several jump cuts, to reflect the erratic movements and behaviour of my character.
